Insomnia and fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is the disorder of the muscles and tissues of the body which get affected by the impact of the disorder. Fibromyalgia literally means the pain of the muscles. There have been very little advances in the research of this debilitating condition. In the condition of the fibromyalgia disease the individual suffers from pain which is located in the different parts of the body and this condition differs in every patient who suffers from the disease. The disease affects two to six percent of the individuals in the total population and women are more at the risk of getting fibromyalgia during their menopause period. In this musculoskeletal disorder the patient also develops a very tender skin, which is very sensitive to the slightest of touch. The pain in this disease is more severe than it is in rheumatoid arthritis. The real cause of this disease is not known there are only theories floating about the possible causes of this crippling disease.

Insomnia:

The relation between insomnia or sleep disturbances and fibromyalgia are very close and researchers are working to establish a connection between the two. The real reasons of the disease are still unknown to us and scientists and investigators have found different theories about the disease. It is now a known fact that hereditary can be the cause of fibromyalgia because it tends to run in families. The sleep disturbance theory states that fibromyalgia is related to sleep quality. The electroencephalography or EEG of the patients shows that the sufferers of this disease are deprived of deep sleep. The sleep theory also suggests that a traumatic event or severe illness affects the sleeping condition of the patient and this might lead to the beginning of pain of FMS in the patient and it also thus sets the disorder on to its course. Humans have normally different stages in their sleeping pattern and the 4th stage is very important because in this the nervous system sets the neurochemical process in body in their right direction.

The pain in the individuals is responsible for releasing the P substance in the spinal chord which makes the nerves to become tenderer to pain. The explanation of the P theory seems to answer the tender points condition in fibromyalgia. Thus the relation between insomnia and fibromyalgia are interlinked.
