Fibromyalgia Treatment
FMS:
Since the FMS is a very poorly documented there are no clearly defined diagnostic criteria and also no laboratory tests are done to detect that anyone has fibromyalgia, one can understand it by its symptoms. Since the nature of the disease is somewhat difficult the treatment for the patients has to be very individualized because the symptoms differ from patient to patient. The patient with FMS is administered with an exercise programme that best makes the muscles flexible and reduces the stiffness. The patient is prescribed low amounts of anti depressants. The use of acupuncture, psychotherapy, behavior modification therapy, chiropractic care, massage and physical therapy, is also very helpful in the treatment of fibromyalgia. These treatments can be combined with each other or they may separately be administered.
In the treatment of FMS drugs like milnacipran, gabapentin, and pregabalin have proven their effectiveness. The uses of aerobic exercises and activities that strengthen the tender points have had significant improvements in the management of pain and the disturbed sleep. The acupuncture therapy in the treatment of fibromyalgia has also gained much acclaim and the acupuncture sessions also differ from patient to patient and hence every patient needs different frequency of acupuncture sessions. The acupuncture treatment has been found very useful in the FMS disorder.
